Walk-in tub alternatives for the elderly: what else ends the climb?
Choices besides a walk-in tub for bathroom safety and accessibility in Sebring, FL, explained in plain words.
The tub wall used to be nothing, and now it is the part of the day you dread a little. A walk-in tub sounds like the obvious answer, but you are not sure you want one in your Sebring home. Before you decide, it is worth seeing the other ways to get in and out without the high step.
What you are fighting is the height of the tub wall and the wet surface on the other side of it. A walk-in tub answers that with a door, a low-threshold entry and an integrated seat. That suits someone who loves a long soak. Someone who mostly showers may be better served by taking the wall out of the picture altogether.
There are a few ways to do that. A tub-to-shower conversion replaces the tub with a Jacuzzi® shower. A walk-in shower brings easier step-in access, and a barrier-free shower or a very low-profile custom pan is another path when the existing shape fits. If you want to keep a tub, a new bathtub can have slip-resistant surfaces, grab bars and built-in seating. The price follows your choices and your space: size, layout, base, walls, fixture finish and extras like a seat or shelves.
Start by asking the person who bathes there what is hardest. Is it stepping in, standing for long, or getting up from low down? Write those answers down. Then call Love Your Bath for a design visit at home. A designer comes to your Sebring house and listens before showing anything. Preston said they "really take the time to listen to find out exactly what I was looking for." You get a custom plan with options and a free quote.
Once the new setup is in, you stop planning each step. A 2023 Sebring shower, for example, has Sandstorm walls in a random stone pattern, Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures and an open entry with no door. The lifetime warranty covers you for as long as you own the home. Bathing becomes ordinary again. You can take your time in the shower, sit when you like and get out without a second thought.
