Trading the Tub for a Walk-In Shower in Sarasota

The tub that came with the house is fine until stepping over it starts to feel like a risk. That is often the moment a walk-in shower starts to sound good, for yourself or for a parent who lives with you. If your home is in Sarasota, here is what the whole job looks like, from the first call on.

In Sarasota, the job goes like this. The tub comes out, and a low-threshold Jacuzzi® shower goes into the same space, so you step in instead of climbing. The wall type and color, the base type and color, and the fixture colors are all yours to choose. Grab bars, a built-in seat and shelves can be added. Showers also come as Jacuzzi barrier-free showers or with very low-profile custom pans. The work stays in the wet area, so floors and vanities are not part of it. We have replaced three showers in Sarasota. One from 2023 has Brushed Nickel fixtures and an exposed roller door.

Sarasota is the seat of Sarasota County and ranks as a top U.S. retirement destination. In the 2020 census, 29.5% of residents were 65 or older. Housing here mixes single-family homes, multi-unit buildings and mobile homes. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and the Ringling Museum of Art are here too. Those are facts about the city, not about your bathroom. What matters for your plan is your own space: how high the tub wall feels, where you would reach for a grab bar, and whether a seat would help.

Each shower is quoted in the home, since no two bathrooms are the same. Your price rests on the size and layout of the space, the base, the wall style and finish, the fixture finish, and extras like a seat, shelves or grab bars. The free quote covers product and installation alike. Cost, permits and whether the change is a good idea each get their own page in the questions below.

It starts with a phone call to set up a design visit, with all homeowners present. At the visit, a Love Your Bath designer listens to what you want and puts a custom plan together, with options and a free quote. You then pick your colors, finishes and safety features. On install day, the crew takes out the tub and puts in your shower, and installs take in as little as one day. Debra D. wrote that "Angie did an awesome job on our new walk in shower."

Then the hurdle is gone, and the bathroom works the way you need it to. You walk into a shower with the walls and fixture finish you chose and a grab bar where your hand lands. Marty S. described trading an old tub enclosure for a walk-in shower this way: "The work done was just jaw dropping beautiful!"
