Tub-to-Shower Conversion in Gainesville: How It Goes, Step by Step

If you are looking into this in Gainesville, the reason may not be style at all. It may be the tub wall. When stepping over it starts to feel like a balancing act, for you or for a parent, a low-threshold shower lets you walk right in instead of climbing.

The work is focused on one spot in the room. The tub comes out, and a low-threshold Jacuzzi® shower goes into that same space. You choose the wall color and pattern, the base, the fixture finish, and the kind of entry you want. We have replaced three showers in Gainesville, and no two look alike. One, from 2023, has smooth Sandstorm walls, Chrome fixtures and an open entry with no door. Another, from 2024, has smooth Quarry Topaz walls, a dual bypass door and a fold-down seat. Each shower is custom, and the work stays in the wet area only.

Gainesville, in Alachua County, is the most populous city in North Central Florida and the home of the University of Florida. Depot Park is built around a restored train station from the 1860s, with the Cade Museum inside the park, and Paynes Prairie lies along the city's southern edge. None of that changes what your own bathroom needs. Take a fresh look at your tub. Do you grab the towel bar to get out? Is there a second tub in the home? Those answers are what shape the plan.

The price comes from a visit to your home, not a chart. It hinges on the size and layout of the space, the base, the wall style and finish, the fixture finish, and extras like a seat, shelves or grab bars. Your free quote takes in both the product and the installation. The install itself takes in as little as one day; now and then it runs to a second. Cost, permits and whether to convert at all each get their own answer below.

First, you set up a design visit, and all homeowners are asked to be part of it. The designer hears what you want and comes back with a custom plan, with options and a free quote. Next, you settle on the colors, finishes and safety features you like. On install day, the Love Your Bath crew removes the tub and puts in the shower. Last, they go over every detail with you before they head out.

After that, a shower is just a shower again. You step in, reach the grab bar or sit on the seat if you chose one, and step out without a second thought. Preston wrote that "The quality of the Jacuzzi shower was higher than what I expected." That is a good feeling to have every morning.
